Leadership Transition
"Passing the torch."
IndigiPopX paused in 2026 as the organization transitioned fully from Founder Dr. Lee Francis IV to Co-Directors Tom Farris and Kristin Hoover Gentry. A new chapter begins.

"Stories Without Borders"
Held at Duke University in Durham, NC — the East Coast debut of IndigiPopX. The ninth gathering brought together Indigenous creators from across the continent with record attendance and an expanded comics marketplace. The inaugural Jonathan Joss Memorial Two Spirit Award was presented to Lisa Fruichantie, honoring the legacy of the beloved actor (1949–2025). IndigiQueer Night — ongoing programming created by Director Kristin Hoover Gentry, a Two Spirit artist — returned as a signature event.

IndigiPopX at the First Americans Museum
"OKC — Year Two"
April 12–14 at the First Americans Museum, Oklahoma City. The Grand Celebration honored Nex Benedict, a Choctaw-descendant teen whose death sparked national conversation. Reservation Dogs Day featured cast members Kaniehtiio Horn, Lane Factor, Jon Proudstar and more. Programming included a Navajo-language Star Wars screening, a Marvel Echo Q&A, and Indigenous robotics with Danielle Boyer. The inaugural IPOP Culture Awards were held, with the Jeffrey Veregge Memorial Award presented in his honor. IndigiQueer Night — created by Director Kristin Hoover Gentry, a Two Spirit artist — debuted as a signature programming event.

The eighth event also brought IndigiPopX east as the IWOW Indigenous Worlds of Wonder Festival in Chapel Hill, NC — a landmark expansion featuring debut comics, film screenings, a packed panel schedule, and youth creator workshops.

IndigiPopX at the First Americans Museum
"OKC — The Return"
The first in-person IndigiPopX since the COVID-19 pandemic — held at the First Americans Museum in Oklahoma City, celebrating the 39 tribes of Oklahoma. The event marked a triumphant return to live programming and set the stage for a second consecutive year at FAM in 2024.

IFFNW — Indigenous Futurisms Festival Northwest
"Reclaim the Narrative"
In the same year, IndigiPopX partnered with the IFFNW Indigenous Futurisms Festival Northwest — bringing its vision of Indigenous voices reclaiming their stories to the Pacific Northwest, with a landmark keynote and sold-out panels.

COVID-19 Pause
"Protecting our relatives."
In-person events were paused out of care and responsibility for our relatives, our elders, and our communities. Indigenous peoples faced disproportionate risk during the pandemic. The safety of our people came first.

IndigiCon — Australia
"Melbourne, Victoria"
The international chapter of IndigiPopX took root in Melbourne, Australia — branded as IndigiCon Aus — as a platform to promote Indigenous creativity across the creative arts. The Melbourne-based event has grown its own community and continues to operate as an active annual festival, with programming including gaming, comics, and pop culture.

Indigenous Pop X Denver
"Mile High City"
July 26–28, 2019 at the historic McNichols Civic Center Building in downtown Denver — in collaboration with the Denver American Indian Commission. A three-day Comic Convention and Pop Culture Festival celebrating Native American and Indigenous contributions to comics, film, futurisms, fashion, and more. The first time IndigiPopX expanded beyond Albuquerque.
