Cosplay Is Culture
From the very first IndigiPopX in 2016, cosplay has been at the heart of the event. Indigenous cosplayers bring something unique to every convention floor — characters reimagined through Native identity, original creations rooted in tribal aesthetics, and the pure joy of community dressed up together.
IndigiPopX cosplay is a space where you can be a Diné Iron Man, a Lakota Sailor Moon, a Two Spirit superhero of your own design, or a perfect recreation of your favorite character — and be celebrated for all of it. There are no wrong answers here.

The IndigiPopX Cosplay Contest is one of the most beloved traditions of the event. Contestants are judged on craftsmanship, creativity, and presentation — with special recognition for Indigenous-inspired original designs.

Over a decade of events, IndigiPopX has been home to some of the most creative, powerful, and joyful cosplay in the Indigenous community. From Peshawn Bread's legendary Mistress Red to first-timers stepping onto the floor for the very first time — every cosplayer is part of this story.
Peshawn Bread
IPX since AlbuquerqueTwo Spirit film director, fashion designer, and beloved IPX cosplayer — Peshawn's Mistress Red is one of the most iconic looks in IndigiPopX history. A community pillar since the very first IndigiPopX in Albuquerque, Peshawn has led the cosplay contest for many years of the event and programmed the inaugural IndigiQueer Night in 2024.
Dezbah Rose (formerly Dezbah Evans)
Euchee cosplayer and longtime IndigiPopX community member, Dezbah has led the cosplay contest for many years of IPX alongside Peshawn Bread, helping shape the contest into the beloved tradition it is today.

Kristin Hoover Gentry
Director & cosplayerIndigiPopX Director (2026–present), Two Spirit artist, and proud plus-size cosplayer — Kristin is living proof that cosplay belongs to everyone. As the creator and champion of IndigiQueer Night, she has made IPX a space where all bodies, all identities, and all expressions are not just welcome but celebrated. Cosplay Guidelines
IndigiPopX is a welcoming space for all cosplayers. We ask that everyone follow these community guidelines to keep the convention floor safe, respectful, and joyful for everyone.
Cosplay is not consent
Wearing a costume is not an invitation for unwanted touching, photography, or commentary. Always ask before photographing or interacting with a cosplayer.
No cultural appropriation
Do not wear sacred regalia, headdresses, or ceremonial items as costumes. IndigiPopX is an Indigenous-led space — please be respectful of the cultures being celebrated here.
Prop weapons policy
All prop weapons must be peace-bonded and comply with venue rules. No functional weapons, sharp edges, or projectile props. Check with staff at the cosplay check-in table.
All ages on the main floor
The main convention floor is all-ages. Adult-themed cosplay is welcome at designated 18+ programming events only.
Be excellent to each other
IndigiPopX is a community. Harassment of any kind — including comments about body, identity, or costume choices — will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the event.
